En su estudio publicado en Aging, propusieron que la cannabis sativa modula la expresión génica y la inflamación.

“Aquí planteamos la hipótesis de que los extractos de nuevos cultivares de cannabis sativa pueden usarse para regular la baja expresión de citocinas proinflamatorias (tormenta de citocinas) y vías involucradas en la inflamación y la fibrosis.

Los expertos emplearon 23 extractos de la marihuana en modelos de tejidos humanos artificiales, con la intención de ver la forma en que se reducirían los niveles del receptor de las células a la que se adhiere el coronavirus para propagarse.

Entre lo que pudieron observar es que siete extractos fueron los más efectivos, causando una profunda y concertada regulación de distintas citocinas.

Uno de los puntos que destacaron es que se pudo inhibir el factor de necrosis tumoral y de la glucoproteína llamada interleucina-6, ambos puntos esenciales luego que se tratan de moléculas que quedan expuestas a la tormenta de citocinas del Covid-19.

Aunado a los siete extractos antes mencionados, otros 13 regularon la expresión del ACE2, reduciendo así los peligros inflamatorios caracteristicos de la infección por SARS-CoV-2, así como de otras enfermedades.
