Producto de la cultura del esfuerzo, con humildad, confiesa que aprendió a viajar en las alas de la imaginación durante las pláticas con don Betu, el patriarca de la dinastía López Lena, y a bien comer a la mesa con ellos en su hogar.
Pedro cuenta con una memoria fotográfica privilegiada. Sus recuerdos conscientes provienen de su primera infancia al llevarle su madre Na’ Tina a tomarse una fotografía a los cuatro años de edad en su natal Juchitán de Zaragoza.
A temprana edad aprendió a leer periódicos y revistas en la casa del Teniente piloto aviador militar Manuel Musalem Santiago “Tarú” y con el jubilado Donaciano Pineda, a quien compraba el periódico en el quiosco del parque central.
Después empezó a recibir en pago un peso diario, que compartía con sus compañeros, por leer el diario a Donaciano ante la pérdida de visión de este y a cambio recibió sus primeras lecciones prácticas de diseño y géneros periodísticos con el diario Excélsior.
A estos dos legendarios personajes que influyeron, definitivamente, en su vida y marcaron su derrotero futuro como adolescente, joven y adulto, en la política y la cultura, se suma don Mario Bustillo Villalobos.
Tarú, hombre leyenda viviente en la Fuerza Aérea Mexicana, y el primer técnico dental en Juchitán, Mario Bustillo Villalobos, fueron presidentes municipales de Juchitán en la década de los 60 y 70, respectivamente.
La lectura llevó a Pedro a la música, con clases de guitarra con su hermano Victoriano, a la oratoria, e indefectiblemente al amor, al enamorarse de su maestra Leticia Gutiérrez, a quien finalmente se atrevió a pedir un beso, que se ganó al cantarle Nanga Ti Feo, el Día del Maestro.
Un año antes de terminar la carrera, su madre, Na’ Tina, le informó que debía ponerse a trabajar para seguir estudiando porque dejaría de vender pescado en el mercado de Juchitán, porque ya no era negocio y estaba cansada, ya no podría apoyarle.
Su audacia y la amistad con el contador Edilberto Aragón Ortiz le permitió ayudarle a resolver un problema legal en Acayucan, Veracruz, y ganarse una importante cantidad de dinero que le permitió terminar la carrera, graduarse y obsequiar un traje a su compañero Aníbal Luis Orozco.
A lo largo de medio siglo, así de generoso y solidario es Pedro Santiago Rasgado, siempre comparte lo que tiene, empezando por su amistad leal como buen Géminis, nacido en Juchitán, el Ombligo del Mundo.
